Coaching Services : Communication and Relationships
Coaching for better communication
Problems are often caused by poor communication yet most of us believe we are good communicators. Communication coaching can:
- help raise awareness of where you communicate well/less well
- show you how to be a better listener
- help you be more articulate and get your points across
- enable you to deal with disagreements more assertively
- help you deal with anger (your own or other people’s) without exploding
Friction at work? Time wasted on internal conflict?
Business success relies on cooperation and good will among staff at all levels. Working relationships often suffer from wear and tear, however, and few organisations have ways of helping staff deal with friction. Bringing in an outside facilitator/mediator can help take the heat out of tense situations and open the way for constructive dialogue.
A facilitated meeting can help with:
- Confusion over roles and responsibilities
- Grievances or misunderstandings that have built up
- Clearing the air
- Discussing delicate or contentious issues
- Personality clashes
- Saying difficult things
- Getting individuals to listen to one another
- Improving team working among staff, partners, directors

Communication case study:
A gifted graphic designer in a small consultancy was getting very tense. Two colleagues complained he had lost his temper with them. Coaching revealed that he found it hard to say no, and therefore accepted all work that was given to him. As deadlines approached he was often very stretched, and could explode at colleagues who approached him to chase work up, or with queries. We worked on helping him be more assertive when taking on work, and more able to tell colleagues calmly when he was stretched and needed to be left alone.
